"Play is to the child what verbalization is to the adult. It is a medium for expressing feelings, exploring relationships, and self-fulfillment. Given the opportunity, children will play out their feelings and needs in a manner or process of expression that is similar to that for adults." Garry Landreth PDH
When a child needs counseling it is important that the therapist understand how to help the child feel comfortable to work through their struggles. Many children do not make progress when expected to sit still and just talk about their problems. Rather, Play Therapy provides a developmentally appropriate form of counseling that allow children to process feelings, situations and events in their natural language- play. Ruthie Weiglein, LPC, RPT is a certified Play Therapist who understands how to facilitate growth and healing through the non-threatening form of play.
